Ah, New Year. 2022. Saying sayonara to the previous year and ringing in the new. I’ve always been a fan of New Years… not the Eve itself which is always a bit of a disappointment if you ask me, but the ‘new year new me’ ethos. The excitement of a fresh new start, the possibilities of the year ahead, the idea of a blank page ready to be filled in (can you tell I’m a sucker for stationary?)…

And I think, after the 2 years we’ve all had, there’s a little more excitement in the air for this new year – at least from where I’m sitting. People are starting to dare that they might be able to travel a little freer, live their lives without quite so many restrictions, but with Omicron and various other variants on the rise again, we just never know what the future will hold for us all.

With that being said, I’ve had a long think about what to do with this website since, y’know, everything has happened. Truth is, I love writing, I love having somewhere to fill my thoughts and mark down what I’m doing in my life, and I love being able to keep track of travel goals and ambitions. However, it’s increasingly more difficult to maintain a travel-focused website given this pandemic that’s wreaked havoc on the world, closed borders, and taken so many lives, and the environmental issues that people are seemingly only starting to wake up to.

How can I possibly proclaim the virtues of going on weekend breaks and doing crazy short-term adventures when our planet is dying in so many ways?

The answer here lies in something I’ve been doing for the past 15 years but haven’t really told anyone about, at least not publicly on a website.

I’m sure you’ve heard of the term ‘bucket list’ before, and maybe some of you have lists yourselves. I first heard of the term in my early teens and became infatuated with the concept – not necessarily the “stuff to do before you die” concept, but more the thought of having a curated list of things you would like to achieve. Whether that be see the Seven Modern Wonders of the World, play a musical instrument very well, or even just be able to make a really good loaf of bread, I love the idea of a running list of small-to-large activities and experiences to work towards throughout my life.

I’ve had this list, or at least iterations of it, since I was 15, and have worked tirelessly in the background to tick these activities off throughout my twenties and early thirties. Some of them are purposefully dead easy (for the record, deep fried Mars Bars aren’t as great as I thought they’d be), some of them are a little more complex to tick off (sing karaoke in Japan), and some of them are arguably much longer term goals, such as wanting to speak fluent German and Spanish. I’ve managed to tick off a lot of these over the past 2 decades, but keep adding to the list, and there are still so many things I want to do in life.

Therefore, I’d like to re-welcome you to Rosi Roams, a bucket-list website covering travel, activities and experiences I attempt to tick off as we all make our way through this crazy life. I promise to keep you updated with everything I complete on the list (spoiler alert, numbers 13, 38 and 46 are currently being planned out over the next few months), and you can keep track of what’s in progress right here.

Got any suggestions for the list? Want to see me tick off something specific on there? I would LOVE to hear it – use this link to message me, or feel free to leave a comment on this post. Miss my old travel content? It’s all still here (as if I was going to delete 6 years’ worth of writing), just navigate to Blog Feed or each continent on the drop-down Where I’ve Been menu. Want to see more real-time updates on this list completion, and maybe some more behind-the-scenes footage of me organising experiences and activities? My Social Media channels will be your best bet.

Lastly, I want to thank all of you for sticking by this website and supporting me during the past two years when I’ve literally had nothing to talk about. Writing is such a joy for me and I’ve truly missed it, and am so excited to be back again. Here’s to a better 2022 for us all, and see you all again on my next blog post! ❤️
